I like to study the history of musical styles (mainly the ones I’m into, of course) as much as researching the history of graphic design and type. These days I’ve been researching the origins of techno music in Detroit. Very interesting to find out how it is in fact related to early 80s hiphop and eletrofunk and how the Detroit industrial-decadent scenario influenced its appearance. And also how the advent of drum machines such as the Roland 909 were important for it to flourish during the nineties.
